About Jacob

Jacob Tidmore will be the first to tell you he never planned on a career in property taxes. Like many young men growing up in Shelby County, his dreams changed often, from playing professional baseball to becoming an architect, contractor, farmer, and even considering dentistry in

college.

Working in the Property Tax Office wasn’t part of the plan.

​

But as Jacob reflects on his journey, he believes it was truly a “God thing.”

​

What started as a simple part-time job as a real property appraiser quickly became a calling to serve his community in a meaningful way. Through that experience, Jacob discovered how the work done in this office quietly supports the everyday life families depend on, strong schools, safe roads and bridges, clean water, responsive law enforcement, and reliable emergency services.

​

He understands that taxes are not always popular. Jacob has spent years listening to concerned taxpayers, answering hard questions, and helping people understand that local property taxes are not about government growth; they are about maintaining the services that protect our families and strengthen our communities.

​

For Jacob, everything became even more personal when he became a husband and father. His “why” became clear.

​

His faith in Jesus Christ, his love for his wife and children, and his desire to see Shelby County remain a safe and prosperous place to live, work, worship, and raise a family now guide everything he does. He believes deeply in conservative values, personal responsibility, fiscal stewardship, strong families, and local control. He wants to ensure the next generation inherits a country where opportunity is real, communities are safe, and faith is freely lived.

Over the past eight years, Jacob has intentionally prepared for this role. He began as an appraiser and worked his way through nearly every position in the office. Today, he understands every major function, from assessment and valuation to collections, administration, and the technology systems that keep the office running efficiently.

​

Working alongside respected leadership, Jacob has helped modernize operations, improve transparency, and maximize efficiency, helping Shelby County operate one of the most effective and customer-focused property tax offices in Alabama.

​

Jacob believes this position is not about politics. It is about skill, integrity, accountability, and servant leadership. Managing more than 30 employees and meeting critical deadlines requires steady leadership and a commitment to doing what is right, even when it is not easy.

​

He welcomes that responsibility because he knows the impact this office has on real families across Shelby County.

​

Jacob Tidmore is running not for a title, but to serve, guided by faith, grounded in conservative principles, and committed to protecting the future of the community he loves.
